"one of the most unique and innovative small ensembles in Europe today, bringing a wide mix of influences from folk, Jazz, classical and Arabic music" FRANCE MUSIQUE (FR)

Harbour is the new album from Norwegian Tuba player and composer Daniel Herskedal following his acclaimed albums Slow Eastbound Train (2015) and The Roc (2017) and Voyage (2019). With each release the core line-up of Herskedal on Tuba and bass trumpet, pianist Eyolf Dale, percussionist Helge Andreas Norbakken has become more effortlessly integrated.

On Harbour the band’s joint sonority and musical depth is overwhelming, full of awe-inspiring melodies soaring over a bed-rock of rhythmical precision laid down by Dale and Norbakken. The production, thanks to the contribution from engineer August Wanngren, takes Daniel’s sound a step further, with more pronounced and richer subtleties evident in the vast sonic array created by these three instruments. It’s a wonder that this range of sounds are produced by just three musicians.

Solo

Call For Winter

“Among our most important musical shocks of 2020. A marvel of depth, breadth of sound, emotional intensity and virtuosity by an artist who pushes the limits of his instrument.”
Citizenjazz (FR)

Daniel Herskedal is the enigmatic master of sound and sonorous beauty. His music ebbs and flows with utter grace and poise, perfectly fusing the spirit of jazz with the compositional craft of classical music. Seldom do you hear a musician with such depth, emotive intensity and virtuosity shine who is simultaneously pushing the boundaries of his instrument to the limit.

Possessed with real melodic resonance, Daniel Herskedal is a hugely gifted and dynamic composer. His music breathes and is full of life. While his last 3 albums have earned him huge praise and adoring fans, this new music expands on the direction and takes influence from ‘Mistral Noir’, the opening track from his album ‘Slow Eastbound Train’, performed entirely solo, layering both tuba and bass trumpet in a both a mesmerising and sublimely beautiful way.

The influence of multiple genres is evident in the songs but it’s the space, the capture, the quality of sound and the true brilliance of its simplicity that impresses most. Combine that with what kind of sounds he can make out of a tuba and it blows your mind.

Collaborative

«It’s never easy to find music that matches the vision of a creative team, a director and Client. The music Daniel provided to our Client (The Coca-Cola Company) was a perfect fit. Daniels professionalism and dedication to making sure the global TVC worked made it easy to collaborate with Daniel. Daniel is now one of our preferred music composers and look forward to working with him again on many more projects.»
Leon Hamilton - COO of the SMC Group

Daniel Herskedal is part of the multi award winning Marja Mortensson ensemble as musician and co writer. He is also active composer for orchestras, films and theatre. Among the commissioners are The BBC Concert Orchestra, The Norwegian Radio Orchestra and The Russian Patriarchate Choir of Moscow.

He’s also done collaborations with fellow Norwegian singer-songwriter Emilie Nicolas (4 Times Norwegian Grammy Winner – 2014: Pop soloist of the year and new artist of the year and 2018: Album of the year and pop artist of the year).

The cinematic scope of his music is obvious in the way he conjures landscapes in his compositions, and has led to his work on soundtracks, including the gorgeous arrangement for tuba of San Francisco (Be Sure to Wear Flowers in Your Hair) for the multi-nominated, Brad Pitt produced, 2019 film The Last Black Man in San Francisco). In 2020, the track was selected by Coca Cola for use in their ‘Open Like Never Before’ global advertising campaign, introducing Daniel’s work to a wider audience.
